The Isa Girls' Story

We were presented with an extraordinary opportunity to rescue 320 ISA Brown hens from the egg industry. These girls were destined for 'culling' - a euphemism for premature death - as they were deemed too small, unwell, disabled, and weakest among 30,000 hens being transferred from intensive grower sheds to cages.

Upon arrival at our sanctuary, we were struck by the condition of these hens. Many had severely trimmed beaks, noticeable limps, and leg deformities. Weight gain was a struggle for most. It was clear that these girls needed specialised care and attention to overcome their challenges and get them to a healthy condition.

Over the course of a few months, we dedicated ourselves to nurturing these hens back to health. Our efforts paid off, and we were thrilled to see most of them recover sufficiently to be rehomed. We carefully selected loving families who understood that these hens were not egg-laying machines, but sentient beings deserving of a full and happy life.

However, a number of the girls still require close monitoring for weight and mobility issues. These special needs hens have found their forever home with us. We are committed to ensuring that each of these remarkable survivors lives out her days free from pain and suffering, receiving the individualised care she needs.

It's been heartwarming to witness these hens experience simple pleasures for the first time. When we initially brought them outside, they squinted in the sunlight - a poignant reminder that they had never before seen the sun. Now, they relish in sunbathing and taking dust baths, natural behaviors that were denied to them in their previous lives.Your support helps us continue to provide these resilient girls with the care they need to thrive. By sponsoring our Isa girls, you're not just helping individual hens - you're taking a stand against the cruelties of industrial farming and supporting a future where all animals are treated with compassion and respect.
