Elvis - the Start of it All

Elvis, our beautiful little rooster, was rescued as a day-old chick being sold for $2 as live snake food. He is an amazing little chap who protects the girls literally with his life. In the face of danger he runs towards it to save the girls, he calls them for food and treats, and they all adore him. As an older rooster he is no longer the leader of the pack, so he has his own garden area he shares with five of the more timid girls, they have formed such a beautiful little family. As our first rescue, he holds a special place in our hearts and reminds us daily of the importance of compassion towards animals.

Elvis' Story

Elvis, a charming little white rooster, came into our lives in a rather unexpected way. We stumbled upon an advertisement on Gumtree that shook us to our core - five baby roosters were being sold as live snake food for $2 each. Horrified by the thought of these innocent creatures meeting such a fate, we had to act.

Without hesitation, we went to pick up all five chicks, with Elvis being one of them. At the time, we were living in the suburbs, blissfully unaware of how this small act would change our lives forever. As the chicks grew, we discovered that our little flock consisted of three boys and two girls.

When the roosters reached maturity and began to crow, we faced a pivotal moment. Living in a suburban area, we quickly realized we had a decision to make: rehome our feathered friends or find a new home for all of us. In a leap of faith that would define our future, we chose the latter. This decision marked the beginning of our journey into sanctuary life.

Elvis is now a distinguished 9-year-old rooster, and our lives have transformed dramatically since those early days. We fondly remember the lengths we went to in order to keep our new family members, including carrying them into the bedroom at night to muffle their crowing and avoid alerting the neighbours!

Looking back, we're incredibly grateful for the path that Elvis and his companions set us on. This unexpected turn of events has filled our lives with more meaning and purpose than we ever thought possible. Elvis' story is not just about one rooster's journey from potential snake food to beloved sanctuary resident; it's about the profound impact that compassion and dedication can have on both animals and humans alike.

By sponsoring Elvis, you're not just supporting one charismatic rooster - you're contributing to the continuation of a dream that started with a simple act of kindness and grew into a lifelong commitment to animal welfare. Your support helps us provide a safe, loving home for Elvis and many other animals who, like him, deserved a chance at a full and happy life.
