The 1600
We responded to an urgent call when 2000 chickens were abandoned by a novice farmer who mistakenly bought egg laying hens instead of hens farmed for meat. Sadly, 400 had already perished by the time we were called on. Along with the chickens we also rescued ducks, geese, a baby pig named Pablo, and a female goat called Kevin. Due to the hard work of the team, and the community effort, all the animals found loving homes. The special needs hens found their forever home at Connie's Coop, please sponsor these beautiful girls to help with ongoing food and healthcare costs.

Our Biggest Rescue So Far
Our sanctuary faced an unprecedented challenge when we received a distress call about 1600 abandoned chickens. An inexperienced farmer had purchased 2000 hens, mistaking egg layers for meat birds. By the time we were alerted, 400 had tragically died due to neglect.
Undaunted, we sprang into action. Our committee members and the local community united in a remarkable display of compassion and teamwork. Together, we managed to find safe, loving homes for all the surviving chickens. Those with special needs, injuries, or health issues found a permanent haven at our sanctuary.
Amidst the sea of feathers, we discovered more than just chickens. The rescue also included numerous ducks and geese, a charming baby pig named Pablo, and surprisingly, a female goat called Kevin. Each of these animals, too, found their forever homes.
This experience reinforced our mission and the power of community in animal rescue. It stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we come together for a common cause.
